A message from
Fr. Carlin ~
Those of you who are a little older and came to the Catholic Faith as adults might have received your education in the Faith in a variety of ways. One way could have been “personal instructions” with a parish priest; another way could have been attending a “Convert Class.” I remember, as a young priest, offering both options.
For the last thirty years or so, those who are interested in joining the Catholic Church usually participate in the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA). OCIA is an eight-month experience.
Here at St. Charles, OCIA is held on Tuesday evenings at 7:00pm, beginning in mid-September, and concluding on Holy Saturday in April. Evening sessions focus on prayer, beliefs of our Faith, and Catholic practice and tradition. Throughout the eight-month OCIA journey, all the pastoral staff members offer various presentations.
Who attends OCIA? Lots of nice folks! Some have been married to a Catholic for a while and want to share their spouse’s faith, others are planning marriage to a Catholic; some have been baptized in other Christian faiths, some are not baptized; some have had substantial training in another church, some have had little or no experience of church. No commitment is expected upfront; as Jesus once invited people “to come and see!” To register, or just to find out more about OCIA, call the Parish Office at 440-884-3030. OCIA is a program for adults seeking to join the Catholic Church and the St. Charles Borromeo Parish family. Those adults who are consciously and freely seeking God and a conversion in the Holy Spirit are encouraged to explore the teachings of the Church and the experience of the St. Charles Borromeo Faith Community's dedication to living and growing in Christ together. Thus, we pray that a person’s heart will be opened to, and remain rooted in, the loving grace of God.
The O.C.I.A. program begins each fall and culminates in the Liturgy of Holy Saturday. For those interested in more information or participating in the next O.C.I.A. program, please contact Fr.
