Did you know that in 100 years, Saint Charles has had 3 pastors? Msgr. Monaghan served the parish as pastor for 44 years, Msgr. Corrigan for 19 and, as of 2022, Fr. Carlin has served as pastor for 35 years!

December 2

What came first: the chicken or the egg? Legend has it that no one knows whether Saint Charles Parish OR Charles Avenue came first. But we do know that Saint Charles became the name chosen by the original 13 families of the parish on April 23, 1923 and that the first church landed at the corner of Ridge Road and Charles Avenue.

Did you know that on September 18, 1966, the Vice President of the United States visited Saint Charles Borromeo School?
During his visit to Cleveland, he stopped and visited the school which, at the time, topped 2,400 students, the peak of its enrollment.

In 1924, the Ursuline Sisters of Cleveland arrived to Saint Charles Borromeo Parish and ministered in the parish school. Until 2019, the Sisters faithfully served thousands of our students and families. We are most grateful for their witness of service and dedication to the Lord, to the Church and the Parish of Saint Charles.

The current (second) church building was dedicated on May 2, 1954. The first masses celebrated in the brand new Church were on the weekend of April 10, 1955 - Easter Sunday. Hundreds of thousands of people have entered our church, appreciating its beauty and character.


 

In 2003, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 'new' church, Saint Charles distributed these souvenirs to parishioners! Do you still have yours?

In 1932, the First Parish Carnival was held to help pay the mortgage of the original property and the first buildings.

Fun fact: In 1969, few came to the Carnival on Sunday, July 20, because most people were glued to their televisions watching the first moon landing!
